the making space sale

these pieces are what we’ll call “studies” in that each one was experimental. sometimes what i like the most about a painting is that it came out of nowhere. sometimes, what i like the most is that it bears the signs of struggle. i like to see that something was worked and then reworked. there’s a mix of that, here and there.

both processes come down to intuition, which is a sense i’m trying to strengthen through practice.

these paintings at moments challenged me. perhaps not technically (at no moment, since I realized what I want to do with art, have I wanted to aim for realism) but absolutely compositionally.

much of painting is observation and translation.

but what if you’re trying to show the world what it’s like to see out of your eye? how intentional does that need to be, I wonder. probably about as intentional as thought, but i’m an overthinker. is the truth something you can relax into or does it demand upright posture and tension?

I guess you can answer that question the same way you’d think about showing up before God in heaven: comfortable as I am, or best-dressed.

me, personally, I like to prop a canvas vertically and dance in front of it, with fluid and jabbing movements, part ballet, part fencing. maybe it’s just about modulating the body work. work hard until it’s easy. or not even try at all, and just be.

these paintings are a lot of “just being.” people on twitter will reply to me and tell me to take more classes.

anyways:

these paintings are unframed. they will be signed. i am nervous about pricing, and i hope i got it right.

please let me know if you have questions. payment plans are available. if you live in Los Angeles, we can avoid the shipping fee altogether. <3
